STRAIGHT UP SCUFFLER pg 4
WHEELS & BRAKES
Maybe one of the things that endears this car to us is its clean but understated wheel and tire combo. Obviously, Tom has discovered how much rubber his car really needs and sees no gain in having any more than that. It’s a Karma thing. Up front, Nitto 235/45ZRs. In the back, 245/45 Nitto Drag Radials. Both ends are stuck to some fake-out 17x8 Cobra rims. Brakes? With him in it, the Mustang tips 3,800 pounds. Cobra 13-inch rotors (front) paired with ’95 GT discs (rear) are foolproof.
INSIDE
Auto Meter gauges lining the A-pillar pop from jet black--coolant temp, oil and fuel pressure, and positive manifold pressure. A fuel pressure gauge peeks from the windshield cowl. Leather skins on the seats, an Alpine head unit, Alpine amps and a Rockford Fosgate sub-woofer. Factory cold air levers right next to it. Tom’s been known to talk to that good-looking stock steering wheel, for testing the limits of the clutch, and for trying to break the Hurst off in one piece. This isn’t a tarpaper shack, see? Electra Auto Body in Lindenhurst, NY, laid on the PPG basecoat/clearcoat of factory “EP.” The red is as deep as the black. The heat from the chrome is downright sinister.
PERFORMANCE
Having recently seen 590 wheel horsepower on the L&M Engines’ dynamometer in Hatboro, PA, Tom’s hoping for a high-10-second drag strip debut,
